South Korean bird evidence dataset

A versioned, provenance-aware projection of canonical bird taxa and documented source evidence.

Dataset scope

KoreAves is a normalized evidence atlas, not an observation network or a population census. The current build connects canonical bird identity, eligible regional evidence and source provenance for South Korea.

KoreAves (2026). KoreAves South Korean Bird Evidence Dataset (version evidence-v1-41947b97538d). https://koreaves.com/dataset/

The evidence version is content-addressed: rebuilding unchanged semantic evidence keeps the same version. A DOI is not asserted until an immutable public release is deposited and rights clearance permits publication.

Normalized record sources

National Institute of Ecology EcoBank surveys
341,983 normalized source rows
GBIF occurrence evidence
1,628,762 normalized source rows

Record rows are source records, not individual bird counts or abundance estimates. Source rights and publication constraints remain separate from semantic eligibility.

Reproducibility

The current derivation is vertical_slice_v1.1. Regional assignment uses the 2025 SGIS first-level administrative geometry with true polygon containment under SGIS_20250630_SIDO_WGS84_POLYGON_CONTAINS_V2. Unresolved taxonomic evidence is retained separately rather than silently fused into a canonical taxon.
